Grounding / Earthing to improve your fertility

Nov 01, 2021

One of my top tips for anyone who is struggling with infertility and is overwhelmed with the emotions, thoughts and everything that comes with it is to……GET OUT INTO NATURE.

There is so much healing in the natural environment, but I’d like to introduce you to a technique that takes this one step further.

It’s called Grounding or Earthing and it’s one of the most powerful and simplest things you can do to improve your health.

The word "Grounded" alone, means to return to normal.  And that connects with me.  We lose ourselves on this journey, inside our thoughts, through the rush and hustle and bustle of life.  Imagine what it would be like to return to normal?

Whenever you go out into nature you feel calmer, right?!  Well, there’s a scientific reason for that.

The earth has a slight negative charge, and there is a special kind of energy in the ground.  And when that connects with your body, it calms the body, lowers your blood viscosity, allows your body to heal and reduces inflammation.

Merely touching the ground can have a real scientific benefit to your body.

All it takes is 10-15 minutes a day of putting your feet and/or hands on the earth.  Taking your shoes off and walking in the soil, grass, rocks or sand.  Gardening is a great way to get grounded too.

Here are just a few of the benefits of grounding or earthing –

  1. Decreases stress and anxiety – struggling with infertility is probably THE most stressful state we’ve ever been in, right? And of course, we’re told that stress affects our fertility, which is why we’re continually told to “just relax” or “just go on a holiday”.  And the more we’re told this, the more we stress.  And before you know it, you’re stressed about being stressed. Well, grounding can help shift us from our sympathetic state to our parasympathetic state in our autonomic nervous system.  And who wouldn’t want to decrease their stress levels right now?!
  2. Reduces inflammation in your body. Inflammation definitely has an impact on our fertility, right?!  That’s the reason why we’re told to cut out so many things from our diet - to decrease our inflammation. Grounding is also a way we can do it naturally and simply.

  3. Decreases pain – if you suffer from painful periods or endometriosis it can be debilitating. Chronic pain affects so much of our life, so this is a great way of alleviating your pain.

  4. Improves wound healing – if you’re undergoing fertility treatment or trying to get to the root cause of your infertility, you’ve probably undergone some surgeries, right? Whether it’s an egg collection, jabbing yourself in the stomach or the butt with a needle each day, or a hysteroscopy, we have a lot of wounds, right? This is a great way to encourage healing.

  5. Improved hormones – did someone say improved hormones??!! This has fertility written ALL over it.  Let’s be honest, infertility and the treatments we undergo can wreak havoc on our cycle.  We’re missing periods, we’re not ovulating, and we’re taking drugs to stimulate all sorts of things. It’s no wonder our body doesn’t know what it’s doing.  Grounding can balance your hormones so you know you’re doing all you can to support your fertility.

  6. Improves sleep – sleep is SO important, not just for fertility, but for everything! When you get a better night sleep, you’re able to focus better, function better, your emotions are a little more in your control, and you’re less likely to yell at the next person who asks when you’re going to have a baby.

  7. Increases your libido – I don’t know about you, but infertility is tough on our sex life and our sex drive. But imagine if you and your partner could spice things up in the bedroom, just by walking around on the grass each day. Yes please!

  8. Weight loss – with all the hormones and fertility drugs, we can find ourselves a little heavier than when we began our fertility treatment, right?! And while I’m not one to focus on weight, being healthy can definitely help our fertility.  Plus, it makes us feel more comfortable in our own skin.

Grounding or earthing is such a simple way to get you outside, and physically connecting with nature.  And most importantly, it can help support you throughout your fertility journey too.
